Getting through to Pay day

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

We live in turbulent times and financing yourself is never straight forward unless you have a great job, which most people don’t! I fall into the latter category, and I am forever trying to balance my books just to keep the wolf from the door. Things got a bit too much last month and I was really falling behind with some repayments for a credit card. As usual it was just a case of running out of money before my monthly wage found its way to my bank account.
I knew that if I missed this payment that I would get a bad mark on my credit rating, so I really had to do something about it. I started looking online for some kind of solution and I came across a company called Payday One. The name said it all, and it really did seem to be a service which would mean that I would have enough cash to pay my bills until my wage came through. I took the loan through Payday One and immediately paid my overdue bill.
It was an enormous relief to get that paid, and since then I have restructured some of my other debts so that I am able to keep my head above water. Thank heavens for payday One!

KKR Look to Berkshire Hathaway

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Henry Kravis and George Roberts started up KKR by putting together impressive deals. They are looking to divdersify the firm into something that can finance it’s own deals, and they are looking to Warren Buffet for inspiration.

Of course, from first impressions it is hard to imagine that Henry Kravis has any sort of envy towards anyone else’s portfolio. He has made his name by being able to buy and sell companies for profit, and his estimated personal wealth sits at $3.8 Billion. Despite this, the nature of his company means that purchasing companies can be a complicated business, and he admires the way that Berkshire Hathaway are able to invest in anything they want, with the ability to never have to raise money. It is, in his eyes, the perfect private equity model.

Luckily for Kravis, he has a team of highly skilled men at his helm, more than willing to make this already fine company take a leap into the stratosphere, none of whom are more comfortable with success than Ken Mehlman. Mehlman is a relatively new figure at KKR, but his pedigree speaks for itself. Originally a top American Attorney, he made the move into politics in the nineties, and found himself managing the Bosh re-election campaign of 2004, in which he of course was very successful. He is now the Managing Director of KKR and hopes to be able to take a lead role in pushing the company onto the next level.
